The purpose of AABSS is to form an organized method for dedicated Canine K-9 handlers around the state to share resources, educate the communities and agencies on the effective utilization of K-9 search teams, educate the public on the types and use of search dogs, provide safety information to the public, and to offer comprehensive training services to K-9 Handlers around the country.
AABSS will also provide a unit of qualified professional K-9 teams to assist the agencies of the state of Arkansas. When requested a qualified K-9 team will arrive as soon as possible at the search location. Alliance team members and canines are required to complete extensive training and evaluation before they become operational. Standards for training and performance are constantly being reviewed and upgraded when necessary. Individuals in the alliance must be proficient in land navigation using map/compass and GPS, basic radio communications, and first aid for both humans and canines. Members receive wilderness survival instruction and are abreast of current search strategies. The members train continually in the classroom and field to maintain the required high level of performance.
